Hey man friend -
These were the thoughts a mentor sent to me during a conversation this week on the life of St Patrick and why he became significant. Thought you might like them.
1. A terribly traumatic event happened to him at age 16 and this was to define his life in a vocational sense. We should be alert to the deep pains of youth which give us future direction.
2. In the course of the 6 years of intense suffering he developed a personal culture of praying without ceasing..he could just as easily have cursed God and wanted to die…
3. as a result of learning how to pray without ceasing his soul developed a capacity to hear the voice of God in its innermost being …especially thru the inner voice (locutions) and dreams …
4. after being delivered from his suffering when he had the chance to spend the rest of his life in a much more comfortable, safe and affluent environment he chose instead to return to the land of his suffering and abuse for the sake of the salvation of others in response to the voice of God.
5. throughout his adult life he engaged in the cosmic conflict with courage, boldness and animated faith and was not naïve about what he was up against in terms of the powers of darkness…as a result Ireland was Christianized.
