Best definition of worship I've seen. . . . . Worship is the GIFT of participating through the SPIRIT in the incarnate SONS communion with the FATHER. This is from James Torrence, a reformed English scholar who has written a good book on worship and the Trinity. posted by John David Walt | at 6/14/2006 10:30:00 AM

no doubt. great definition of worship. short but packed.
JD, thanks for sharing this. What's Torrance's book called?
Worship, Community and the Triune God of Grace. James B. Torrance. jd
My old OT prof use to use this definition - and who knows where he got it from...
"Worship is the acknowledgement of who God is and our relationship to Him."
I had to throw that in - but I liked yours too :)
Smiles,

thanks amie-- but isn't that the BIG question-- who is God. this is the beauty of Torrance's definition-- it names God as Trinity--Father-Son and Spirit and in the most succinct way talks about the interrelationships and how we connect with that.
good deal -- I hear ya :-)
excellent...poetic and packed with meaning. Ever notice how the most powerful of statements, prayers, etc are typically short? Lord's Prayer, 23rd Psalm, Gettysburg Address, this definition of worship....
In few words is found deep meaning?
