BEACH RECONSTRUCTION
I wanted to show the unbelievable way they are rebuilding the beach on this island. As said earlier, the hurricanes last year nearly wiped the beach out. The large oil tanker pictured pulls white sands from the ocean floor miles away from the coast. The ship then takes the wet sand to a pumping station near the beach and pumps it onto the shore. They work 24-7 doing this for months now, rebuilding the 4 miles of island coastline. posted by John David Walt | at 5/06/2006 08:06:00 PM
