Some write poems, some play video games. I wrote my bi-monthly column for Barefoot Ministries on my Palm Pilot during the time the students were receiving their diplomas. Ah, the ability to multi-task. :-) -- Jim

You truly make an impact with your gift J.D.. Your poetries speak so much.

What can I say? "Perpetual Underclass" got to me as well, yet in a different way. You were simply real. When you got to the third verse, I just teared up. "See people, wash feet..." The "see people" part moved me because it was something that had been highlighted to me, that was special to me from a few years back. It's easy to notice a winning personality - we're naturally drawn to them, but what about those that don't stand out as much? They are fighting their own battles too. I was challenged. And what about those that are "seen" (it's hard not to notice those that are handicapped) but are neglected?

Once I was in the washroom of a seminary and there was a lady there who couldn't walk properly (she had to use crutches) because her legs were uneven. I was moved, and I asked her if I could help her in any way. She asked if I could roll up the legs of her pants for her. I got down on my knees and did just that. It was nothing big, but the moment I rose I heard the Lord go, "Whatever you did to the least of these my brethren, you did to Me". And I tell you that was so rewarding. It was right around the time I was being moved to "see".

I also realized recently how easy it is to want to wash the feet of the people you dearly love. It's like.. no gesture can be too low (to love). It just makes me wonder at the love of Jesus to have done that, to have established that...

So you really moved me in that poem. You are a blessing, my friend.
