KingdomTide Study on the Holy Spirit continues. . . Despite my failure to keep you abridged, I have continued in my reading of Father Cantalamessa's commentary on the Veni Creator, the great hymn to the Holy Spirit-- Come Creator Spirit. I'm almost done. Following is a prayer from a medieval author, William of St. Thierry, that comes from the latter part of the book. Hurry, then, to have a share in the Holy Spirit. He is present when you call on him, and if you call on him it is because he is present in you. He is the rushing river that brings joy to the city of God. He will show you what God the Father keeps hidden from the learned and the wise of this world. God is Spirit and those who adore him must adore in spirit and in truth, so too it is fitting that those who long to understand him and to know him must seek in the Holy Spirit alone the insight of faith and the meaning of Truth pure and simple. In the darkness and ignorance of this life, to the poor in spirit, he is light that enlightens, he is love that enraptures, he is gentleness most moving, he is our access to God, he is the love of the one who loves, he is dedication, he is devotion. posted by John David Walt | at 10/30/2007 09:50:00 AM | 0 comments Wednesday, October 24, 2007 A Tribute Poem to my Dad on the occasion of his last harvest as a farmer The end of the last harvest Finally pours out of the truck Tipped up toward the Heavens Funneling joy commingled with Soybeans I fight back tears of sadness As the seed disappears into the ground unplanted Labels: poetry posted by John David Walt | at 10/24/2007 01:27:00 AM | 4 commentsThursday, October 11, 2007 Some Other fields FARMStrong is Farming FARMStrong friends-- here's a couple of places I've been writing lately. I'm in the midst of a 10 week online teaching segment on worship design and leadership with Chris Tomlin's Worship Frequency equipping site. You can check that out here. Sign up/in for free. Go to the Message Board and click on Worship Seminary. I'm enhancing these short posts with five minute YouTube clips of me teaching. Here's the intro clip: I'm also working with Mark Benjamin, former member of our Worship Design Team at Asbury and now Director of Worship Arts at George Fox University, on a site called College Union, for campus ministers. We are writing a blog together-- short hopefully reflective posts on the work of worship designed for campus ministers. check them out. i would love to see some of you involved in the conversations. you could definitely enrich in some helpful ways. posted by John David Walt | at 10/11/2007 10:26:00 PM | 3 comments Wednesday, October 10, 2007 anybody seen this book yet??? posted by John David Walt | at 10/10/2007 06:55:00 PM | 2 comments Sunday, October 07, 2007 FARMStrong interviews Chris Tomlin ![]() This turned out to be a good interview/article between Tiffani, Chris and myself. Star Wars Lego The Movie I returned from my Promised Land tour (a.k.a. Arkansas) to an eager David who was insistent to show me the movie--- yes the movie--- that he and neighbor Nathan made while i was away. This was made entirely with Legos, FARMStrong CAM and IPhoto. It's pure next-gen Lucas film making. Behold. (will take you about 4 minutes). After watching-- it seems that our friends at YouTube stripped out our official Star Wars "Emperor's March" sountrack from the movie. Oops! If you want that, you'll have to come over. Habitation Marriage is not a house or even a tent it is before that, and colder: the edge of the forest, the edge of the desert the unpainted stairs at the back where we squat outside, eating popcorn the edge of the receding glacier where painfully and with wonder at having survived even this far we are learning to make fire If you haven't subscribed-- do so today: Here. posted by John David Walt | at 10/06/2007 09:40:00 AM | 1 comments Friday, October 05, 2007 Hi Mom I'm back in Fayetteville, Arkansas, where I spent ten years of my life. I've been here teaching at a campus ministry in town last night-- The Wesley Foundation-- where some fourteen years ago, I found. . . . . . not Jesus. . . . . . but TIFFANI!!! PTL. Anyway-- tonight I'm staying with Omar and Jenn Al-Rikabi in their cottage apartment. Outside we hear the roar of 350,000 Harley Davidsons. No-- I don't exaggerate. This weekend happened to be the "Bikes, Blues and Bar-b-que" festival. No kidding-- 375,000 people have descended on this little college town of around 50K. I've never seen anything like it. Anyway-- it's been a great time. I spent last night and this morning with the McKenzie family, one of my earlier surrogate families. I also got to see Kay and C.R. Magness another of those families here in town. Headed back to the Shire tomorrow. I realized I've been neglecting FARMStrong of late. I've come to admit the fact that my blog is a glorified "Hi Mom" blog. The sad part is I learned the other day is that not even my Mom reads my blog anymore. And so I decided to get it moving again. I've actually been writing in several other places of late. Enough for now. We're moving again. posted by John David Walt | at 10/05/2007 09:27:00 PM | 4 comments
